Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment will my child need?
Your child will need basketball/athletic shorts and shirts in preferably red, black, white, or gray. Players will also need a good pair of basketball shoes (preferably red, black, white, or gray). Please avoid playing in running shoes as they do not provide appropriate traction and support. One practice uniform, 2 games uniforms, and 1 long sleeve shooting shirt will be issued to each player and turned in at the end of the season. Individual player fees will be collected and used to purchase additional gear for players. Players are allowed to keep items purchased with personal funds. It is the responsibility of each player to keep up with their gear.
Gameday Attire - Team attire will be be coordinated for game days.
Is a physical examination needed in order to participate in basketball?
Yes. An up-to-date physical exam is needed in order to participate in all MBMS basketball activities. Physical forms are available for viewing and download on the MBMS basketball homepage. Once completed, physical forms should be uploaded to DragonFly so they can be accessed by coaching and training staff as needed.
What is DragonFly?
DragonFly is the secure online application used to house athlete physicals and medical information. We no longer collect paper copies of physicals. DragonFly instructions are available for viewing and download on the MBMS basketball homepage.
Can 6th and 7th graders play?
Students in 6th and 7th grade are allowed to play, however, they will be evaluated and advised based on their abilities. Some 6th and 7th graders with exceptional abilities may make the middle school team. These 6th-7th grade players must be committed to the MBMS basketball. We will also have a "B team" this year that will be composed of only 6th and 7th graders. It is recommended that players on the "B team" also participate in Premier League or Recreation League options since the "B team" will have a limited amount of games this year on the schedule.
How much time will my child get to play?
Playing time is not guaranteed. Playing time will be based on effort and ability. It will be our goal to provide each player some time on the court but we cannot promise any playing time. Players will have a chance to improve and compete in practice to earn more game repetitions. The most common answer to the question of "how do I get more playing time?" is to improve your skills.
What position(s) will my child play?
Players will be evaluated daily in practice and will be placed in the role which they can best help the team.
What happens if my child misses practice?
Preparations are vital to our success and therefore all players are expected to attend ALL practices. If a situation arises that causes a player to miss, it is expected that the player communicates with a coach prior to missing practice. Parents are welcomed to communicate as well, but while trying to teach players to be accountable, we would like to hear from them. Missing practice or failure to communicate can affect playing time. Parents are welcome to attend and watch practice but are advised to be a bystander.
Who do I contact with questions or concerns?
Any questions or concerns should be relayed to the head coach. Please contact Coach Givens
